Board and Train

Our board and train program is our most successful and popular service!

The dog comes to live with us at our home for 2-4 weeks to learn all of the basic obedience, impulse control, leash walking, socialization, public exposure, as well as addressing any specific behavioral issues they are having. The length of the stay is dependent on variables such as the dogs age and the amount of issues the dog displays. At the end of the training we bring the dog home and have a long session with the owners to show them what the dog has learned and teach them how to continue it all at home. The reason our board and train is the most preferred method is because we the trainers are able to teach and correct the behaviors properly. Once we know that the dog understands everything we have taught, then we teach the owners how to continue reinforcing the behaviors.

What often happens with alternative types of training such as private sessions and group classes, is that the owners are required to practice daily while the trainer is not there. This often leaves owners unsure if they are doing everything correctly, causing more room for confusion between both dog and owner. We understand that owners are not dog trainers and their skill set will not be comparable. Owners are also often juggling their busy schedules and may have a hard time finding the time to put in all the work that it takes to do it all on their own. The board and train allows us to do all of the hard part for you. Of course, there is still work for the owners to do once the dog comes home to reinforce the training and show the dog that everything they learned is going to be enforced at home now. But we are able to get them through the learning phase so that when they return home, you are just reinforcing what they already know.

Our 3-4 week program covers much more in depth training. It is for puppies or adult dogs and those with more behavioral issues.

The length depends on what we need to cover and how quickly the dog adjusts and picks up on training. Remember, every dog is different! We do not want to rush a dog along that is not ready.

Cost includes the boarding stay with hours of training daily, 2+ hour training session with the owners, and tools. Any additional upgrades to tools, place beds, etc. not included but sometimes recommended.

3 weeks is $2,300+ tax.

4 weeks is $3,000+ tax.

Some Things we will cover:

  • Lose leash walking. Including addressing any reactivity towards dogs, people, other animals, cars, etc.

  • Place: dogs will be able to lay in place through any length of time with any types of distractions

  • Public exposure: we take dogs out to public parks/stores to work on what they’ve learned with distractions around.

  • Socialization: Dogs will be able to work on both human and dog socialization.

    • We will work with dogs whom struggle with dog or human interactions to get them to the best point they are capable of.

  • Waiting at thresholds: Dogs will learn to wait at open doors until told they may pass through. They will also learn to wait to eat their food until told. This builds relationship and teaches the dog to ask permission.

  • Eye contact: We teach the dog to look at us and check in. Building relationship.

  • Address any resource guarding.

  • Correcting jumping, mouthing, nipping.

  • Car manners.

  • Reliable off leash recall can be taught with the use of an e-collar that we provide (we will not accept any cheap amazon bought e-collar. It must be a safe and reliable one we provide).

  • And much much more! This program will be specifically designed to address the specific issues the dog is having.

To reserve a spot in one of our programs: After discussing which program is best for your dog, we will pick out available dates. Then we ask for half of the balance to hold the spot. It is non refundable if cancelled within 30 days prior to start date. The remaining balance is due at the start date of the training.

*We reserve the right to require a consultation first before we will agree to take the dog into our programs.

Our 2 week program is only for puppies (5 months and under) and is an intro to basic obedience foundation. This program is for owners looking to get their puppies started off on the right track.

*Dogs with any sort of behavioral issues are not a fit for the 2 week program.

Cost: $1,700 + tax. This includes the boarding stay, approx. 2hr go home training session, and any tools we recommend.

What we will cover:

  • Lose leash walking. No more pulling you down the street!

  • Intro to place.

  • Public exposure: we take dogs out to public parks/stores to work on what they’ve learned with distractions around.

  • Socialization: Dogs will socialize with balanced dogs to help teach them the ropes of proper social behavior.

  • Waiting at thresholds: Dogs will learn to wait at open doors until told they may pass through. They will also learn to wait to eat their food until told. This is like learning to ask for permission.

  • Eye contact: We teach the dog to look at us and check in.

  • Correcting jumping, mouthing, nipping.

  • Potty training.

1-2 week Refresher course

We get it, sometimes life gets busy and as time goes on you may let things slide and it reflects in the dogs behavior!

This program is only for dogs who have previously gone through the board and train and are looking to either further their skills, or need some help getting them back on track.

Cost and length is dependent on what we are working on: ($75/day + tax)

A few examples of why owners chose to do the refresher course later:

  • Some owners send their dogs who had been trained as puppies and now they want to add e-collar training or other further training now that the dog is an adult.

  • Some owners have admittedly slacked and need help getting their dogs back on track.

  • Some have added another dog (or even human) to the family and want to set the dogs up for success.

We are located in Hopkinton RI on 5 acres of property. The yard is fully fenced in with 6ft tall fencing so dogs are able to safely run and play. Our boarding room is equipped with both heat and A/C. We have various sized and structured crates and kennels to ensure comfort for everyone. Plenty of space to allow room for training with treadmills, different beds, and place cots.

Here’s a look at a typical board and train

“Absolutely amazing! My dog is calmer and happier than ever. I have the tools to keep her good habits. I can take her anywhere with confidence. Life changing for us!”

“My puppy just returned from a two week board and train and the change in him is nothing short of astounding. She is an absolute miracle worker! Her love for dogs is clear immediately upon meeting her, and the calm, confident presence she brings to the table for training is literally unmatched. She is a wealth of knowledge and doesn’t hesitate to give continued guidance if you have questions (although I’m sure you won’t, as she is extremely thorough!) I absolutely recommend bringing your dog to Shannon. Don’t hesitate – she is the best around!” -Jennifer G.
